The South Suburban Chapter is dedicated to serving and acting on behalf of the needs, rights, and well-being of all young children and their families in the South Suburban Region, with special emphasis on developmental and educational services and resources that foster the growth and development of the membership in their work with, and on behalf of, young children.

Professional Development

Twice a year the South Suburban Chapter hosts a Professional Develpment In-Service addressing current training needs and topics.

Vita Bates Scholarship

As part of our effort on behalf of young children in the south suburbs, we offer SSAEYC members the opportunity to continue their professional development with support in the form of a mini-grant of up to $150.00.  These grants have been awarded annually for the past nine years. We have supported members as they attend local and state conferences, attend continuing education classes, seek accreditation, and bring consultants to their centers.Donna Furmanek of Orland Park received $250.00 for the reimbursement of an on-site staff in-service.Lynn Hollender of Palos Park received $50.00 for the reimbursement of a EC conference.Arrilla Wray of Alsip received $300.00 for the reimbursement of college tuition for an EC course.You may need help paying for a college course, a speaker for your center, or attending a workshop.Apply today!Please download the application, fill it out, and submit it today.  The deadline is February 1, 2019.If you have any questions, please email Annette at

Children's Performance

Twice a year the South Suburban Chapter hosts a Field Trip outing enhancing children's love of music and discovery.

Director's Networking Luncheon

Each Fall, Winter and Spring we gather together various Directors to enjoy a guest speaker, lunch, advocacy issues, and to network with other school Directors. Different centers take turns hosting each luncheon and future topics are developed at each meeting.
