Dear current and aspiring early childhood educators,

We are interested in learning about your experiences and challenges in higher education. Our hope is to ultimately achieve changes that will support a robust educational pathway for early childhood teachers and other professionals in Illinois.

In the fall of 2020 we shared a survey from the Illinois Board of Education, which asked about the barriers to and through higher education, both community college and universities. Many responses were collected and they set the priorities for IBHE to do their strategic plan. The priorities are to increase college and credential completion, close racial and other equity gaps, and to make college more affordable. Now an advisory committee has been created to identify ways to achieve those priorities.

Early childhood is being included in the planning process! Teresa Ramos, VP of Public Policy and Advocacy at Illinois Action for Children is a member of the Illinois Board of Higher Education Strategic Planning advisory committee that is working through potential solutions to challenges in higher education. As part of her work on the advisory committee, we would like to gather feedback from early childhood educators on some of the initial solutions being explored.

Your responses to this survey will help the advisory committee understand how to best support students in the early childhood education field.
